“PAW”
TECHNIQUE: ACRYLIC ON CANVAS
FORMAT: 40X60

For a week I painted a picture, another painting, a big demanding one I got tired of it and decided to put it aside, to realise some other painting. A memory of training together with a friend in the Baths came to mind. It was great then, the park, the freshness , the energy. During the training, a beautiful, colourful peacock came very close to us. He looked at us with interest. He stayed for a while and then stately walked away. I thought I wanted to paint him. The peacock as a symbol has many meanings: immortality, infinity, the sun, pride. It is also a symbol of love, rebirth. The Hindus associate it with the goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity. One could enumerate many more of its meanings. I have deliberately omitted its feathers. My peacock is the eye of power – acrylic on canvas

As a decorator I have been working with mannequins for years I am fascinated by them. I love their forms, colours and display possibilities. A year ago, I saw the play ‘The Mannequin Ball’ by Bruno Jasieński, directed by Jerzy Stuhr, during a break during the pandemic. It is a grotesque drama, a satire, a patchwork of movement, dance and pantomime. One New Year’s Eve, the mannequins come to life and one of them sets off to a ball of people. This is my variation on the theme of mannequins and certainly not the last.

‘Onaon ‘ caught the interest of my cat Aishe, she sniffed him curiously after he left the studio. Onaon is considering whether he wants to be highlighted with an outline and come out of the background, or become part of it. He is aware of imperfections, so he analyses whether to stretch more, to improve his lips, his cheeks. Whether to leave his doll-like green eyes or change to a different colour of contact lenses. The dilemmas of a doll.
‘THE CULT OF FACE’

* ARTWORK FRAMED IN A WOODEN FRAME IN SHADES OF GOLD
‘Cult of the face’. There are plenty of women around who invest in their superficial face. They are redoing their noses, injecting their face with botox, introducing threads and other enhancements. Ok. everything is for people. However, it moves me and makes me wonder, is it time for me? I’m well into my 40s and I can see the signs of time passing. For the time being, I accept and embrace it. For how long, I don’t know. In the river of tissues one can see heads/faces. The first is almost perfect, the second bears the outline of proposed modifications. The next has wrinkles, already aged, the last shows that underneath, there is only a skeleton. The heads are devoid of ears, because they don’t want to hear anything, any whispers. They decide what they will be. The female figure, pays homage to them, and her man accepts this with humility. They both kneel on stone statues of human deities with the backdrop of a post apocalyptic city. This is how I see it and wanted to express it in a painting that took a month to create. Maybe you guys will interpret it differently. I wanted it to shimmer and look different, at any time of day, which is why it contains gold and copper elements.
